يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ (2:183)
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alssiyamu kama kutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona
Allah says in the holy Quran,
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that ye may (learn) self-restraint,- – 2:183 (Y. Ali)
Ramadhan is the nineth month of the lunar calendar/islamic calendar where people refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk.
The Prophet ﷺ said: «صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ» “Fast at its sighting and break the fast at its sighting.”
We are anticipating to sight the moon either on Saturday, 4th May so that we begin fasting on Sunday, or sighting on Sunday 5th so that we begin fasting on Monday in shaa Allah. For the last few weeks, muslims have been prepairing for this holy month, because it is sacred, special and it only comes once in a year. This is the month that comes with great rewards and bonuses. Allahumma Balighna Ramadhan.
As we are prepairing, this blog might come up quite late but heyy….better late than never. Here is a list of tips/hacks of how I actually do which you can also use to prepare for ramadhan.
1. Paying off the previous fasts.
This one should be done waaay before it’s one month to ramadhan. For those who skipped fasting, you are not allowed to get to this year’s ramadhan with last year’s debt.
2. Schedule a reasonable drinking water routine.
Lately, I’ve been drinking a lot of water so I’m trying to minimise water during the day but drink too much in the morning and at night.
3. More excercise.
I have this plan of just taking a walk. Ive been so lazy to go to the gym because of the activities and time, so I have decided I’ll be walking few kilometers every morning on my way to work.
4. Collecting books, saving vedios to watch and downloading special Apps.
Last year i realised ramadhan is the only time i get productive. I managed to complete 8 books so this year i’ve decided to keep books ready and in shaa Allah schedule to complete the Quran. I’ll be downloading Quran Apps which I’ll be listening to as I walk. I am also planning to begin reading “stories of the prophets” I have an ebook but if anyone has a hardcopy kindly lend a sister. Thank you.
5.Check the menstruation calendar and plan my dua routine.
We all know women cannot fast during menstruation. However this is not the time to feel free and commit sins and forget it is ramadhan. There are types of duas we can make, books to read, vedios to watch that realate to ibadah.
6. Finding more time alone.
This helps in reflecting in our actions and creating more time with Allah. Instead of backbitting with friends, we can earn those free rewards through the little thoughts of khairat.
7. Washing the prayer mats and scarfs/generally cleaning the whole space.
Most people do not pray at home on normal days. We are everywhere. We pray at work, in the masjid by the streets or even on events and friends’ houses. Most often than not, the prayer mat is dusty. It is only used during fajr and Ishaa. The cleanliness is a preperation to phsychologically be prepared to pray at home most of the time. Praying at a clean place makes your mind relaxed and at peace.
8. Planning for taraweh.
Those who go to work and have less time to go to the mosques in the neighbourhood, you can plan to attend taraweh during weekends or once/twice in a week. It adds alot to your deeds.
9. Coming up with a Quran reading routine.
Personally, I know I waste a lot of time eating so now that we are fasting, I’m excited ill spend more time reading the quran. That is why I journal down how many ayahs ill be reading after every prayer in a day. This helps in completing the entire book in due time.
10. Make truce with your friends.
Even if we cannot reach everyone, we can atleast call a few friends to comfirm if we are all in good terms for our hearts to be pure and our prayers to be answeres.
